So what other great movie
franchises are out there yet
to be untapped? In recent
years there has been a spate
of movies based on 70's or
80's TV programs. It seems
at times, that Hollywood is
only fixated on product like
this if its considered
"Retro". Look at Starsky and
Hutch, Get smart, even
Transformers. All of these
blockbusters where
originally 70's or 80's TV
shows.
So what is next on the list?
Have the film
moguls run out
of ideas, or are we in store
for some retro re-making?
But are we really ready for
famous actors trying to act
like cartoon characters,
Remember the Flintstones
movie? That was completely
horrendous. I'm sure that
most of us would rather
forget it. Inspector Gadget? My god! What a load of crap!
That was the death of Mathew
Broderick, he never reared
his head again until the
producers, witch ironically
enough was also a remake. I
think lately Mathew
Broderick spends his days
wondering around New York,
sporting his woolly
cardigan, jumping from one
Starbucks to the other,
exchanging in interesting
banter with other Starbucks
patrons about how he cant
get the peppermint mocha
twist coffee stains out of
the seats of his hybrid car!
Somebody should run over him
with a Hummer! Poetic
Justice?
Apparently
Toby Maguire has bought the
rights to the classic Anime
TV series Robotech! Rick
Hunter might be gracing us
with his presence in the
real live action movie of
this classic cartoon. Lets
hope that Toby Maguire
doesn't decide to screw this
potentially amazing movie up
by being in it himself. Toby
Maguire as Rick Hunter? No
way! I'm sorry but that is
not an easy idea to digest.
Thinking about how cool the
Valkyrie fighter robots will
look with some serious CGI
budget behind them is a mind
blowing thought. But please
whatever happens don't put
Toby Maguire in the Pilots
seat! Have some mercy! I
recently watched episodes 1
to 6 of the original
Robotech series and there is
actually a really good story
there. Aliens invade earth
so man uses stolen alien
technology to develop giant
transforming F16 - Robots to
eventually defeat them.
Pretty cool stuff! Robotech
the movie is still very far
away, they haven't even
officially announced it yet.
So remember, you head it
here first.
Gummy
Bears CGI full length movie?
A masters of the universe
remake? GI Joe the real live
movie with The Rock as
sergeant slaughter? Perhaps
Dino Riders the movie! Now
that would be cool. Jurassic
park meats mad max!
Supercool! Or Biker Mice
from Mars! Jim Carry would
probably jump at that shit
in a second! Or what about
the Smurfs? They did it with
Dr Seuss, they can do it
with the Smurfs. They just
need short fat actors that
look fetching in blue. No,
that would be crap! Although
thinking about it now, I'm
sure that Disney have a Chip
and Dale movie up their
sleeves, they must have!
It will be interesting to
see what the future holds
for the big budget feature
remakes of a classic cartoon
TV series . It will be even
more interesting to see if
they put Toby Maguire in any
of them. At the end of the
day there are only so many
possible 80's shows to
regurgitate, eventually they
will have to start making
remakes of the TV shows we
see today. Imagine a year
2025 movie version of Family
Guy. Or South park? I
doesn't really bear thinking
about, now does it?
I Just found out that
Warner bros have bought a
script for the
actual Thundercats movie!
It will be a CGI animated
adventure. Sadly no actors
in makeup. haha! And
apparently Joel Silver is
talking about a
new He-Man movie! Jeez,
the things you read on the
internet!
Buy Robotech goodies! Go on!
Do it! Do it now! Do it!
Do it.......!
